Rape Culture of the 21st century. This is one of
the worst societal inventions. Needless to say, even in the past century, rape
is still a part of it.

Just found this in my computer HAHAHAHA.
THE PATTERN TODAY |
Wait, I think you might be misunderstanding me. Rape, in
this article’s sense is not the actual rape or forced rape where for example, a
woman is coerced to a sexual encounter. What I mean to say is that engaging in
sexual encounters to many different women (in a short span of time). One doesn’t
have to be a rapist to be part of the rape culture, as Gerald Lim, a Filipino rappler
contributor. He implies that as long as the concept of women as sexual objects
still exist, rape culture will never cease.
We know that males have tendencies to brag the number of
scores they had with one or many women. It is as if they are trophies. We are in a game where females are the haunted
and the males are the hunters. The more a male get, the more success there is.
What is wrong then?
Let’s get to each point. First, when did this male
domination started. Well, since the dawn of time, males has been leaders of
tribes and it is a pre-requisite for them to be called as ladykillers. This is
sexism in the beginning of time.
Second, why do we women today become so liberated? There has
been a culture to women that engaging in casual sex is an indication of
maturity. Is it really? Yes, in the view of today’s society but as long as
logic and morality is concern, we know the answer is a big No. Still, no matter
what happens, pre-consented sexual engagements will stay as a sign for a girl
to be called as woman.
The latter gives us the idea that without commitment, a woman can be promiscuous and this leads us to the idea that sex is just about lust and naughtiness, which is not.
Lastly, many women, mostly teenagers are left pregnant.
Should I explain further?
What to do then?
Very simple, we should try to instill in the minds of the incoming
generation that the norms of our culture for women must be deeply exhibited not
just in words but also in actions, most importantly. We should tell them to
respect the concept of sexuality and women.
In a lesser sense, just become responsible parents. We know that as human beings our nature is to procreate but that doesn't mean that we should do it the same way animals do. I am not being religious here. Setting the convictions on religiosity aside, there are dangers in continuing this kind of culture. Instead of teaching students and children that they should "not be raped", why not teach them "not to rape"?
Scientifically speaking, there is hazard to sexually-transmitted diseases or venereal illness. HIV, AIDS, Gonorrhea, Syphilis and many more.
Also, we know how society works. If a woman is discreetly engaging in casual sex to many guys, she is considered a winner but if a woman is known to be the "sawsawan ng bayan", we shame her as a slut for the rest of her life. Sometimes, we can even say that the nicest guy in the world is also interested in casual sex with her.
Blame Game?
Who's to blame then? A woman becomes like that and she is ostracized by slut-shaming? a guy mocks her as "pokpok" (whore) but he still wants to have sex with her. Is he an idiot for not being firm in his words or is it just the way how our society works? Then it's the society's fault? Who rules the society? It is us. We know who has the key to solving this matter.
Society is hard to conquer but we are the society and we can control it. We just have to start pushing the "Solve it" button.
That't it for today? Do you agree? Disagree? Have you another point you wish to bring up? Can you suggest another factors I could have explained even further? Comment below so I know what you're thinking and feeling.
